What updates did you download, you should not manually download a file because you then probably won't get an update for the Linux version but for the Windows version! You do not have to manually install (run a file) anything.
The only correct procedure is to use Firefox's built in "check for upgrades" function, which you can find in (probably) the rightmost menu entry (most often the "help" menu) of Firefox. If you choose to run this check Firefox will test to see if an update/upgrade exists and will then ask you if you want to download/install it. It then will automatically download the correct version (to a temporary location you do not need to know) which will then automatically be installed at the next reboot of Firefox.
